TRAUMA & PTSD TREATMENT
How Bloom Approaches TRAUMA & PTSD CARE
Trauma doesn't look the same for everyone. For some, it's flashbacks or nightmares. For others, it's difficulty sleeping, unexplained anxiety, irritability, or feeling like their body is always preparing for something to go wrong.
At Bloom, we don't believe in treating these symptoms in isolation. We look at your full health picture—your sleep, medical history, stress, nutrition, relationships, and how your experiences may be affecting your physical and emotional well-being.
Whether you're navigating childhood trauma, a difficult relationship, a traumatic event, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), we'll work with you to build an individualized treatment plan that fits your needs, preferences, and goals.
Your plan may include:
Integrative approaches
Sleep support, nutrition guidance, movement, stress management, and other evidence-based strategies that support your physical and emotional well-being.
Medication management
When appropriate, we'll explore evidence-based medication options to help manage PTSD-related symptoms, anxiety, depression, or sleep disturbances—always considering your health history and goals.
COLLABORATIVE CARE
We believe mental health care works best as a team. We'll collaborate with your existing therapist or help connect you with one, ensuring your psychiatric care and therapeutic support work together.
Ongoing follow-up
We don't just hand you a prescription and send you on your way. We check in regularly, reassess your symptoms, and adjust your treatment plan as your needs change.
WHY BLOOM IS DIFFERENT
*
WHY BLOOM IS DIFFERENT *
Trauma can affect everything from your sleep and relationships to how your body responds to everyday stress. We believe your care should reflect that complexity.
At Bloom, our team includes board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP-BC), with additional certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C). Our team also includes a dual board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Certified Nurse-Midwife, bringing specialized expertise in both psychiatric and reproductive health.
We combine that clinical expertise with a more thoughtful, individualized approach. Rather than focusing on a diagnosis alone, we take time to understand your full health picture and explore treatment options that support your mind and body.
You deserve more than a quick appointment and a prescription. You deserve someone who takes the time to understand you.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
YOUR FIRST VISIT
Your first visit at Bloom is 90–120 minutes, available in person in Sioux Falls, SD, or through telehealth across South Dakota. This is a conversation, not an interrogation. We'll take time to understand your symptoms, medical history, and what you've been experiencing—without expecting you to share every detail of your past. There's no pressure to have everything figured out before you arrive.
FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENTS:
Follow-up appointments typically last 30–60 minutes, scheduled around your individual needs. We'll check in on how you're feeling, what's improving, and where you may need additional support. Your treatment plan can change as your needs evolve.
TELEHEALTH AVAILABLE:

OUR APPROACH:
At Bloom, we believe mental health is deeply connected to physical health. Trauma can influence your nervous system, sleep, energy, and overall well-being, which is why we look beyond the symptoms alone. Your treatment might include medication management, sleep or nutrition support, lifestyle strategies, or collaboration with an outside therapist who specializes in trauma-focused treatment.
We'll help you understand your options and build a plan that fits your life.
You deserve to be heard. Your care should be individualized. Healing is possible.
WHAT IS TRAUMA & PTSD?
Trauma is the emotional and psychological impact of an overwhelming or distressing experience. It may follow childhood adversity, abuse, a difficult relationship, medical trauma, an accident, or another event that leaves you feeling unsafe or powerless.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. While many people associate PTSD with flashbacks or nightmares, the symptoms aren't always so obvious.
Sometimes trauma shows up in everyday moments—in the way you react to stress, how you sleep, or how difficult it feels to trust others or let your guard down.
Not everyone who experiences trauma develops PTSD. And you don't need a diagnosis to recognize that something isn't right or to ask for help.
You might be experiencing trauma-related symptoms or PTSD if you:
Feel constantly on edge, alert, or like something bad is about to happen
Experience nightmares, flashbacks, or unwanted memories
Avoid certain people, places, or situations that remind you of what happened
Struggle to sleep or relax, even when you're exhausted
Feel emotionally numb, disconnected, or unlike yourself
Experience anxiety, irritability, anger, or overwhelming emotions
Have difficulty trusting others or feeling safe in relationships
Notice physical symptoms such as muscle tension, headaches, or fatigue
Feel guilt, shame, or blame yourself for what happened

An unsuccessful experience with medication doesn't necessarily mean there aren't other options worth exploring.

At Bloom, we take time to understand what you've already tried, how you responded, and what may have been missing from your previous care before making new recommendations.
