POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION & ANXIETY

Postpartum depression and anxiety are real, common, and treatable. We are here to help you navigate this heavy season with specialized care built entirely around you, your changing body, and your unique lifestyle. You can reclaim your peace of mind and feel like yourself again, right here in Sioux Falls or online via telehealth across South Dakota.

How Bloom Approaches Postpartum Care

At Bloom Mental Health & Wellness, we don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to postpartum care — because no two women experience it the same way.

We provide individualized postpartum care by evaluating sleep, nutrition, medical history, and physical recovery, utilizing clinical diagnostics and optional lab work to inform a tailored plan. Care models include integrative wellness strategies, safe breastfeeding-friendly medication management, collaboration with talk therapists, and dynamic follow-up adjustments as healing progresses.

Your plan may include:

Integrative approaches

Nutrition guidance, sleep support, movement, bright light therapy, and other evidence-based strategies that support your whole body recovery.

Medication management

When appropriate and if it’s something you'd like to explore, we'll walk you through evidence-based options tailored to your individual needs, health history, and goals — including for women who are breastfeeding.

COLLABORATIVE CARE

We believe mental health care works best as a team. We'll collaborate with your existing therapist or help connect you with one, ensuring your psychiatric care and therapeutic support work together seamlessly.

Ongoing follow-up

We don't just hand you a prescription and send you on your way. We check in regularly, reassess, and adjust your plan as you heal

WHY BLOOM IS DIFFERENT

WHY BLOOM IS DIFFERENT *

Most providers aren't equipped to treat postpartum mental health with the depth it deserves. At Bloom, our entire team is certified in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) — a specialized credential that demonstrates advanced training and expertise in the mental health needs of women during pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. This means we understand the hormonal, physical, and emotional changes of the perinatal period in a way that most mental health providers simply don't.

Our team also includes a dual board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Certified Nurse-Midwife — a combination of expertise that is rare to find in one practice. We stay current on the latest research so we can offer you a full range of evidence-based options rather than defaulting to "wait and see."

We also know that postpartum mental health doesn't exist in isolation. It's connected to your sleep, your nutrition, your relationships, your birth experience, and your identity. We treat all of it — not just the symptoms.

WHAT IS POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION & ANXIETY?

Postpartum depression and anxiety are among the most common — and most undertreated — experiences a woman can have after birth. They can begin days after delivery or emerge gradually over weeks and months. And despite how common they are, too many women are told it's just the baby blues, sent home, and left to figure it out on their own.

Postpartum depression and anxiety are not a reflection of how much you love your baby. They are not a sign that you are failing. They are medical conditions — and they are treatable.

You might be experiencing postpartum depression or anxiety if you:

  • Feel disconnected from your baby or like you're going through the motions

  • Cry frequently or feel a persistent sadness you can't shake

  • Feel overwhelmed, on edge, or like something bad is about to happen

  • Have intrusive or scary thoughts that frighten you

  • Struggle to sleep even when your baby is sleeping

  • Feel like you've lost yourself or don't recognize who you are anymore

  • Wonder if your baby would be better off without you

  • Feel numb, empty, or like you're watching your life from the outside
