How Bloom Approaches ANXIETY
Anxiety isn’t always just in your mind — and at Bloom, we don’t treat it that way. For many women, anxiety is rooted in something physical: nutritional deficiencies, disrupted sleep, hormonal shifts, postpartum changes, or an underlying condition that hasn’t been identified yet.
When you come to us, we start by getting to know your full picture. We take a comprehensive look at your health history, lifestyle, sleep patterns, and nutrition — and may recommend blood work to better understand what’s contributing to how you feel. From there we build a personalized plan designed specifically around you and your life.
Your plan may include:
Integrative approaches
Sleep support, nutritional guidance, movement, mindfulness, and other evidence-based strategies that address anxiety at the root.
Medication management
If indicated and something you'd like to explore, we'll walk you through evidence-based options tailored to your individual needs, health history, and goals.
COLLABORATIVE CARE
We believe mental health care works best as a team. We'll collaborate with your existing therapist or help connect you with one, ensuring your psychiatric care and therapeutic support work together seamlessly.
Ongoing follow-up
We check in regularly, reassess how you’re doing, and adjust your plan as your life and needs evolve.
WHY BLOOM IS DIFFERENT
*
WHY BLOOM IS DIFFERENT *
Most anxiety treatment starts and ends with a prescription — or a waitlist for therapy. At Bloom, we do something different.
Our entire team is certified in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) — which means we understand the unique way anxiety shows up in women across every stage of life. Everyday anxiety, postpartum anxiety, premenstrual anxiety, anxiety during pregnancy, anxiety triggered by infertility or pregnancy loss — these are experiences we specialize in and take seriously.
We also bring a level of integrative expertise that goes beyond a standard psychiatric appointment. We look at your full picture — sleep, nutrition, hormonal health, medical history — to find what’s actually driving your anxiety rather than simply managing it. And we do it in a space where you’ll never feel rushed, dismissed, or like just another appointment.

WHAT IS ANXIETY?
Anxiety is one of the most common mental health experiences women face — and one of the most frequently undertreated. It can look like constant worry, a racing heart, difficulty sleeping, irritability, or a persistent sense that something bad is about to happen. For many women it shows up physically before it’s ever recognized as anxiety.
Anxiety can be triggered or worsened by hormonal changes, postpartum transitions, stress, trauma, nutritional deficiencies, and more. It is not a personality flaw, a sign of weakness, or something you just need to push through. It is real — and it is treatable.
You might be experiencing anxiety if you:
Worry constantly and can’t seem to turn your mind off
Feel on edge, irritable, or easily startled
Have trouble sleeping even when you’re exhausted
Experience physical symptoms like a racing heart, chest tightness, or shortness of breath
Avoid situations or people because they feel overwhelming
Feel like you’re waiting for something to go wrong
Struggle to be present with your baby, your family, or your own life
Feel like anxiety is running the show — and you’re just along for the ride
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes. Women are nearly twice as likely as men to experience anxiety. This is largely connected to hormonal fluctuations across the lifespan: menstrual cycles, pregnancy, postpartum, and perimenopause all create windows of increased vulnerability. Social and cultural factors play a role too. At Bloom, we specialize in understanding how these unique experiences shape anxiety in women and how to treat it accordingly.
-
Stress is typically tied to a specific situation and eases once that situation resolves. Anxiety tends to persist even when there’s nothing obvious to worry about. It can feel like a constant hum of unease, dread, or tension that follows you regardless of what’s happening in your life. If anxiety is interfering with your sleep, relationships, work, or ability to enjoy daily life, it’s worth talking to someone.
-
Yes. Postpartum anxiety has its own distinct character. It often involves intense fear about your baby’s safety, intrusive thoughts, hypervigilance, and a sense that something terrible is about to happen. It can be harder to recognize than postpartum depression because new mothers are expected to worry. At Bloom, we specialize in postpartum anxiety and understand how to distinguish it from typical new-parent nerves.
-
Absolutely. Hormonal shifts are one of the most common and most overlooked drivers of anxiety in women. Fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone across the menstrual cycle, during pregnancy, postpartum, and perimenopause can all trigger or worsen anxiety significantly. At Bloom we take a whole-body approach that considers how your hormonal health is contributing to what you’re experiencing.
-
Yes. For many women, anxiety responds well to a combination of therapy with a therapist, lifestyle changes, nutritional support, sleep strategies, and other integrative approaches without medication. For others, medication is an important and helpful part of the plan. At Bloom we never pressure anyone toward medication. We take time to understand your full picture and build a plan around your needs, goals, and preferences.
-
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, which is why we get to know you before making any recommendations. Some women find therapy with a dedicated therapist transformative. Others benefit most from medication. Many do best with both, alongside integrative support. At Bloom we manage the medical side of your care and coordinate with your therapist, or help you find one, when therapy is part of your plan.
-
Yes, and this surprises many women who don’t realize their physical symptoms are anxiety-related. Racing heart, chest tightness, shortness of breath, stomach issues, headaches, muscle tension, and fatigue are all common physical manifestations of anxiety. If you’ve been told everything looks normal physically but you still don’t feel right, anxiety may be worth exploring.
-
Yes. Anxiety and depression frequently occur together, and each can make the other harder to manage. Many women experience a cycle of anxious, racing thoughts followed by exhaustion and low mood. At Bloom we take a comprehensive look at everything you’re experiencing and build a treatment plan that addresses the full picture rather than treating each symptom in isolation.
-
Yes, significantly. The postpartum period is one of the highest-risk windows for anxiety in a woman’s life. Hormonal shifts, sleep deprivation, identity changes, and the overwhelming responsibility of caring for a newborn can all amplify existing anxiety or trigger it for the first time. If you’re struggling after having a baby, you are not alone, and what you’re feeling deserves real support.
-
That experience is frustrating and unfortunately common. It often means the underlying cause of your anxiety wasn’t fully identified, or the approach wasn’t the right fit for you. At Bloom we take a comprehensive, detective-work approach to understanding what’s driving your anxiety before making any recommendations. We don’t assume what worked, or didn’t work, for someone else will be right for you.
-
This varies depending on the individual, the approach, and what’s driving your anxiety. Some women notice meaningful improvement within a few weeks. Others take longer. At Bloom we reassess regularly and adjust your plan as you progress. Our goal isn’t just short-term relief. It’s building a sustainable path to feeling genuinely better.
-
Yes. Deficiencies in certain nutrients, including magnesium, vitamin D, B vitamins, and omega-3 fatty acids, have all been linked to increased anxiety. This is one reason we take a whole-body approach at Bloom and may recommend blood work to better understand how your physical health is contributing to how you feel. Addressing nutritional gaps can be a meaningful part of an integrative anxiety treatment plan.
